Courses and WorkshopsThe Professional Development Center in the College of Information Technology offers short but intense professional development workshops in the areas of project management, information technology, information technology management and business. Participating professionals develop new skills and knowledge and/or maintain the currency of their skills and knowledge, thereby ensuring their continuing value to their employers. Moreover, in many cases, the courses offered through the PDC can be used to meet continuing education requirements for different professional bodies, such as Project Management International.
The PDC offers both open enrollment and customized workshops. Open enrollment courses are more generic than customized courses but attract representatives from different organizations, thus giving participants the opportunity to share their experiences with others, and learn from others. Customized workshops cater to the specific needs of a client. The process by which we customize workshops typically involves a 1 to 2 hour meeting with the organization to determine exactly what it expects its employees to achieve in the workshop. The PDC then designs a workshop with these specific outcomes in mind.
Workshops are led by faculty who are not only familiar with the very latest developments in their fields, but also have extensive practical industry experience. Workshops therefore cover leading edge material, while at the same time demonstrating its practical usefulness. Moreover, workshops are highly interactive and give participants ample opportunity to apply the material covered to their own situation.
