Coastal BETA recently recognized the College of Information at Georgia Southern University and the School of Computing at Armstrong Atlantic State University for the WebBSIT program. The WebBSIT program was a a finalist for the award of outstanding achievement in education.

The WebBSIT is a fully online baccaureate degree in Information Technology. It is offered jointly by Armstrong Atlantic University, Clayton College and State University, Georgia Southern University, Macon State College, and Southern Polytechnic State University. It is aimed at working professionals who either wish to complete their degree, or are seeking a career change.

Coastal BETA. is the Business, Education and Technology Alliance for coastal Georgia and South Carolina. It is a membership based organization for businesses, educators, governmental entities and technology groups that share the vision of Savannah and the coastal region as a relevant technology center offering a high wage, growth economy to its citizens. Each year Coastal BETA makes a number of awards in the categories of Outstanding Achievement in Education, Outstanding Achievement In Government, Outstanding Achievement By An Emerging Company, Outstanding Achievement By A Mature Company, Outstanding Community Contribution, and for the first time in 2006 Outstanding Achievement in Sustainability.

The award for outstanding achievement in education went to the Ossabaw Island Foundation.
