IT Professors Win Best Paper Award at IS Education Conference

November 10, 2006

Cheryl Aasheim, assistant professor in the Department of Information Technology, Art Gowan, chair of the Department of Information Technology, and Han Reichgelt, associate dean in the College of Information Technology, recently received the best paper award at the Information Systems Education Conference (ISECON), held in Dallas. The paper was presented by Cheryl Aasheim.

The paper is entitled "Establishing an Assessment Process for a Computing Program" and describes the assessment and quality improvement processes that the Department of Information Technology established to ensure that its students better meet the requirements of the workplace after graduation. Many agencies responsible for accrediting institutions and programs have started to put greater emphasis in their accreditation criteria on such processes, and the paper was therefore timely.

ISECON is one of the largest conferences dedicated specifically to Information Systems Education. Held annually since 1982, ISECON is the largest continuously-running conference for IS Education. It is organized by the Special Interest Group on Education (EDSIG) of the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP).

The paper can be downloaded from the ISECON site.
