Letter from the DeanDear Alumni, Students and Friends of the College of Information Technology,
As many of you may already know, the College of Information Technology is housed in a new state-of-the-art facility, which opened in July 2003. With the start of the Fall 2004 semester, the College of IT building is serving an enrollment of over 600 students who have declared in one of the three College of IT programs of computer sciences, information systems, or information technology. Our facility also serves over 2,100 additional GSU students who take course work in other academic degree programs that have been scheduled within the building.
However, what is not often recognized is that as remarkable as our new building is, additional resources are needed if we are to meet the long-term challenge of maintaining and improving our high academic standards, and strengthening our links with business. Gifts received through annual, capital, and planned giving programs are used to supplement, but not replace, support from the State of Georgia. When you support higher education by making a gift to GSU's College of Information Technology, you are investing in the future and enriching education. Your contributions offset the costs of a variety of activities and materials associated with university life including support to improve teaching, to fund costs of scholarly research, and to upgrade or augment equipment in the college.

Thanks in large part to contributions and sponsored endowments from contributors like yourself, the College of IT is building a reputation as a leader in information technology education. With your support, we are able to continue structuring our excellence in course program development and instruction to ensure that students are exposed to cutting-edge issues impacting today's global technology environment. In pursuit of our goal of national prominence, we have identified our most vital project themes: 1) Institutional Enrichment Projects, 2) Academic Enrichment Projects, and 3) Research Enrichment Projects,. Please take a moment to review the initiatives outlined within each theme by clicking on the links located inside the box to the right. Each initiative has distinctive elements of growth and enhancement opportunities, which, with your financial support, will lead the College of Information Technology to become the nation's leader in the training of those students who will one day dominate the High Tech sector of the economy. Thank you for your consideration, generosity and support of the College of Information Technology at Georgia Southern University. Ronald Shiffler, Interim Dean |
