Joanne Walter is the president of WalterPan LLC, a company focused on providing technology solutions to the self service industry.  She is also the founder of EcoInvestTM LLC, an equity fund and consulting company based upon technology solutions for environmental reclamation.  EcoInvest has initiated projects in slag reclamation to create rock-wool insulation and has advised both American and Russian companies on implementing projects in Russia.  Prior to founding these companies, Walter was a vice president at NCR Corporation.  Businesses Walter has launched within NCR include Self-Checkout Express and web-based as well as stand-alone kiosks across all industries for NCR.  She has ten patents awarded in self-checkout, web based kiosks and data mining.

Walter began her career with NCR in 1983 as a personal computer product manager in Augsburg, Germany and has held a number of product management, sales and marketing positions in Europe, Latin America, Middle East and Africa markets.  Walter was promoted to vice president of the Retail Solution Group in September 1995, and ran new business start ups, such as the NCR Self Checkout business as well as the web-based kiosk business.  Fluent in German and Russian, Walter served in the U.S. Army prior to joining NCR.

Walter served on 2 task forces for the Governor of Georgia, one for Telecommunications and IT and one Strategic Industries.  She was a guest speaker on Technology at the G8 Summit at Sea Island in 2004.  Walter also founded Global SynapseTM, a non profit organization dedicated to implementing best practices between the United States and Russia.  Walter was recently named a lifetime member to Strathmore’s Who’s Who as a futurist and was the 2004 Commencement speaker at Georgia Southwestern.  She also serves as the vice president of foreign investment for the Chelyabinsk Oblast, Russia through the Regional Association of Employers .  Recently, she published two papers on outsourcing software development in rural Georgia; brokered an agreement for The Georgia Institute of Technology and Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) to bring Georgia Tech’s Technology Management program to MIPT; guest lectured at Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology; and was a recipient of a Charette Scholarship to Harvard University, John F. Kennedy School of Government, Leadership For A Networked World, Executive Education Program.
