Alumni of the Year - 2008
After completing his BBA in Information Systems in 1984, Matt began his career as Senior System Analyst with Unisys. In 1990, he joined COIN Banking Systems, Inc. and was serving as Customer Support Center Manager when he made the decision to become an independent contractor. Over the next decade, Matt completed a variety of applications/systems projects for numerous clients including ALLTEL, BellSouth, Coca Cola, Delta Airlines, GE Capital Corporation, Innotrac Corporation, Residential Inspectors of America, Safe Systems, and UPS. In 2004, Matt joined Gladiator Technology Services as Vice President for Application Development. He serves as Manager of the Development Department and oversees the ongoing development of the Ivan Internet Security Correlation Engine which monitors malicious Internet traffic targeted at systems in community banks. This system enables Gladiator Technology to function as a MSSP (Managed Security Service Provider) for community banks. The evolution of Matt’s application development skill set mirrors the changes that have occurred in business systems during the last 20 years. In his first job, Matt programmed in Pascal before eventually developing expertise in C and C++. During the mid-1990’s, he had become proficient in Visual Basic and object-oriented visual programming environments. By 2004, Matt had added expertise in a wide variety of Web tools including ASP, C#, .NET tools, and XML. Application security has also been a theme across his career and his current position enables him to indulge both this and his application development interests. Throughout his career, Matt has never lost touch with COBA and the IS Program. He has
been a regular participant at IS Reunions and has personally underwritten the Matt
Janofsky Scholarship which has provided assistance to numerous IS majors across the
years. He hopes to continue to be involved with Georgia Southern in the future with more
frequent stops in Statesboro if his son follows through on plans to pursue his
undergraduate degree at GSU.
