Why Study I.T. at Georgia Southern?

Why Major in Information Technology?

The Department of Information Technology will train tomorrow's Internet and Intranet innovators - digital problem-solvers who will lead America's fastest growing career field. I.T. graduates will establish and maintain computer networks; design web pages using sound and graphics; maintain databases; help businesses work smarter and make better decisions; and share information around the world through data communications.

What are the Career Opportunities in Information Technology?

I.T. remains one of the fastest growing job sectors in America.  Companies working in partnership with Georgia Southern's I.T. program include BellSouth Corporation, The Coca-Cola Company, Georgia Pacific Corporation, The Home Depot, Inc., Southern Company, ESRI, IXL of Atlanta, Oracle, and SAP.

What Sets Georgia Southern Apart from the Rest?

At Georgia Southern University, students work with professors who have a reputation for quality instruction and who have earned professional recognition. Many have work experiences that enrich class discussions and ensure that students will be exposed to cutting-edge issues.

Georgia Southern provides a student-centered environment led by faculty members who truly care about student success. Students will experience the difference that high levels of interaction with a dedicated faculty can make. Unlike larger schools, classes are taught by qualified professors, rather than graduate students, and class sizes are smaller.

Students will have opportunities to interact with business leaders and executives from such companies as The Home Depot, Chick-fil-A, and The Coca-Cola Company. Members of the I.T. Advisory Council and the Business Advisory Council, all of whom are distinguished in their fields, regularly bring their expertise to campus as guest speakers.

Georgia Southern's I.T. curriculum is unique. It was developed after extensive consultation with leaders in the I.T. industry. It includes a strong I.T. core with a specialization area, an emphasis on hands-on engagement, and a second discipline in an I.T.-user field. Students will also do an internship and gain valuable real-world experience.
