Department of Information Technology Internship Information

You must complete IT 1130, IT 1430, CSCI 1236, CISM 2230 and IT 3131 courses prior to the term in which you intern.

How should you proceed? Prior to starting internship:
1. Complete the Internship Information Form. You can also obtain this form on the CIT Student Services Department Room 1208.
2. Return the completed form to the CIT Student Services Department. They will verify that you have met the class requirements
3. You will be notified by e-mail of internships opportunities that come through the CIT Student Services office.
4. If you identify an internship opportunity through your own efforts turn in a detailed description of the job duties along with contact information of the company and your direct supervisor.
5. Once you have secured an "approved" internship, the College of Information Technology will then prepare contracts stipulating the responsibilities of the employer, the department and the intern. The beginning and ending dates of the internship contract normally coincide with the beginning and ending dates of the term. However, actual employment may extend prior to and/or beyond those dates.
6. The Internship Program agreement must be completed prior to beginning the internship.
These contracts are subject to the approval of the Chair of the Department of Information Technology and will NOT be prepared unless Steps 1 - 4 above have been properly completed.
7. Contracts must be completed and signed by all parties, and returned to the College of Information Technology. When all paperwork is in order, we will enroll you in I.T. 4790.

How we will evaluate your Internship?
• Keep a daily/weekly log of your activities
• Stay in contact with your advisor on a bi-weekly basis to report progress and/or problems.
• Provide a written report on the work experience about 2-3 pages in length.
• Or, if the internship was centered on a project submit a finished copy of the project and a short description of the project goals, outcomes, and method of accomplishment.
• The employer will formally evaluate you in the middle and at the end of the term using an Internship Evaluation Form.
• You will fill your personal evaluation at the end of the internship.

Will you be compensated?
• Normally compensated by the employer.
• This is solely at the discretion of the employer
• Negotiated privately between the employer and the student.
• The normal pay range can vary per hour.

Now Remember.......
• You are responsible for developing your own internship opportunity. Anywhere!! Just consider living expenses at the internship location.
• Contact prospective employers that sponsor your internship, if possible.
• Once you find an opportunity, turn in the Student Services Department a detailed description of job duties along with contact information of the company and your direct supervisor; this to assure that the internship is acceptable.
• Course credit (academic credit) will not be awarded.
• Internships are an extension to the I.T. curriculum, and required of all I.T. majors.
• The College of I.T. will occasionally receive requests from employers for interns; but it is your responsibility to find one.
• When such requests are received, all students who have filled out an I.T. Internship Information Form and meet all criteria will be notified of the opportunity.
• Interested students will be put in touch with the employer, who will schedule interviews and determine who gets the internship.
